I have a short list of stocks that I watch, waiting for prices to fall to the point where I want to buy.  This morning I saw Mark Twain's famous quote in the newspaper and, with contrarian optimism, went online at my discount brokerage account to see where my wishlist stocks were at. Some of them did indeed have very attractive prices. But I chickened out and didn't buy anything.

After three days of market gains and today's relative calm I worked up the nerve to put in a buy order. It's a safe and boring oil and gas pipeline operator with not too much debt and stable dividends. How can I loose?
