Cosmic Forces
There is a Grand Cosmic Accounting Scheme that balances energy gain and loss, yin and yang, credits and debits, good and bad karma, and the little ups and downs of ordinary life. There doesn't seem to be much you can do about it. That's just the way the universe works.
Saturday saw the realization of a major milestone at our house. For the first time since we moved here in May, our two-car garage was sufficiently cleared of the moving flotsam and jetsam to park one vehicle inside. This is a Good Thing. A Very Good Thing.
The Restoration of the Cosmic Balance came today.
The Big Guy and Andy drive off this morning in the, up to now, completely reliable truck, to drop off recyclables at the recycling depot. Not much later I answer the phone to receive terse instructions to "bring the other truck keys." The truck ignition/steering wheel lock won't unlock. This is a Bad Thing.
After much struggling and straining with both keys The Big Guy gives up and takes off with my car to the neighbourhood garage for help. I cool my heels with Andy and the disabled truck at the recycling depot. The guy who hangs around the recycle bins gathering up cans and bottles that can be redeemed for cash comes over to chat and informs me the trucks that pick up the recycle bins are due pretty soon and we'll need to move our disabled truck out of the way. I decide not to worry about that just yet.
Presently The Big Guy returns with my car and a kid who works at the garage. He spends a minute or so struggling and straining with the steering wheel and the keys with the same result. Nothing. Andy, who's been in the back of the truck for some time now, is concerned about having a stranger in our truck and starts barking. After some tense discussion that has to be louder than normal due to all the barking, The Big Guy and the kid take off again in my car to go back to the garage to summon a tow truck.
I wait. The Big Guy comes back with my car (I`m starting to get a little annoyed about the careless way he`s driving it through the big potholes at the recycling depot entrance) and we all wait some more for the tow truck. I get bored and start hunting through my car for something to read. Ford Taurus service manual. Automobile insurance papers. Road maps! Just the thing to distract my mind.
Anyway, to skip quickly through a bunch of stuff that you probably don`t actually want to read about, the tow truck arrives before the recycling trucks. The local garage can get the necessary part but the guy who knows how to do the programming to make the new ignition respond only to this key is away on vacation so any Ford key can now start the truck. To risk-adverse, super-paranoid Big Guy this is a Bad Thing. Luckily he can now put the truck safely inside our mostly cleaned out garage overnight.
The third Bad Thing that happened today was that shelving delivered today turned out to be the wrong stuff and The Big Guy didn`t notice until he had put together the shelves and destroyed the boxes they came in.
Stasis is reached.
